Successfully completing task-specific Remote NDT Inspection on a Bombardier Challenger 650

On behalf of Swiss Air-Rescue Rega, we successfully performed a remote High Frequency Eddy Current Inspection for Task 57-20-007 — “LOWER WING PLANK – WS148.00, STRINGER 8 TO 10 AND STRINGER 15.”

The complete inspection was performed on the lower wing surface using our Remote Aircraft Inspection Device (RAID), specifically designed for remote inspections on aircraft, including underside wing inspections.

The entire inspection process was fully controlled and monitored remotely from the IMITec Inspection Control Center (ICC).

The technical workflow included:

  • Automatic calibration according to OEM NDT procedures
  • Rapid installation of the rail-guided scanning system on the wing underside
  • Real-time remote acquisition and analysis of Eddy Current data
  • Live monitoring of Impedance Plane signals and C-Scan visualization
  • Automated post-calibration and digital reporting

The C-Scan results clearly visualize the inspection area:

  • Green = aircraft skin material
  • Red = fastener locations
  • Blue = Lap Joint

The complete inspection was additionally verified by a qualified NDT Level 3 inspector and confirmed equivalent results compared to conventional manual inspection.

This application demonstrates how Remote NDT can significantly reduce inspection time while maintaining full data transparency, traceability, and inspection quality — even for inspections performed on lower aircraft structures.

We would like to thank Swiss Air-Rescue Rega for supporting the use of innovative Remote NDT technologies in aircraft maintenance.
